The approach to Astorga was 12 miles of hot open road. The photos show the path, a random free fruit and drink stand, the cross at the Astorga over look, and the view. As you can tell from my brief notes, I want a cold drink in the shade.
Astorga is the second largest city between Leon and Santiago de Compesella with a population of 10,000. The cities oldest structures are from 275 BC and the end of the Iron Age, but the Romans built massive baths and forts to protect nearby gold mines in 14 BC.
The Catedral de Santa María de Astorga has walls built as early as the 11th century with the main entrance dati
ng from 1471.
